Moon Shy Treat!

posted in Blog | Tagged:

msSo today I’m bringing you an excerpt from Moon Shy as it is in the running for Best Shapeshifter Book at the Love Romance Best of Awards.

Moon Shy was my first paranormal story and stars Lowell who is not at all happy about being a werewolf. He hates it so much he locks himself up in a cellar whenever a full moon looms.

He keps himself away from people so he can’t possibly hurt them that is until two very different women enter his life and complicate it in wonderful and wicked ways.

Enjoy the Excerpt!

Lowell always looked forward to his Friday meal in the canteen. It was simple and satisfying, and it helped him feel normal. Normal people went to the canteen for their lunch. All right, he timed it so there wouldn’t be many people around, but it still made him normal, he’d convinced himself of that.

He had lived in isolation for about five years. He could not risk being around people at all. Once a month, he turned into a hungering, insane beast, and he couldn’t risk anyone being close enough to him to get hurt. He was beginning to enjoy being alone. Who needed social interaction, anyway? Other people only had annoying opinions and boring lives that they insist on telling you all about. He had thoroughly convinced himself he was best off alone with only his computer and the servers for company. They were pretty predictable and easy to deal with, to boot.

At first, he was purely irritated that some woman was taking her lunch break so late. She breezed into the canteen with her shapely body and bouncy, red curls and filled the room with her sweet, apple blossom scent. It really put a guy off his rhythm.

However, when she asked if she could sit beside him, he found her impossible to resist. She had been a pretty girl from a distance, but close to, she was beautiful. Her eyes were this deep, seductive emerald green, and they glinted like real jewels, and she smelt good enough to eat. Her red hair just called to his fingers, they wanted to stroke and grab and pull at it. Her skin was pure and milky, and she had the kind of curves men only dreamt about.

The conversation did not flow as well as Lowell wanted it to. He was obviously a lot rustier than he’d imagined. He couldn’t believe Jenny had been at his school and knew who he was. He was sure if he’d seen such a beauty back then he’d have smoothly chatted her up but then he remembered how he’d really been in school and realised if she hadn’t hung with his crowd, he wouldn’t have noticed her at all. He had been such a dickhead back then.

Somehow, though, he managed to invite her on a kind of standing date, and she accepted. Lunch down in the dungeons was not the most romantic of places, but Lowell was determined to do his best to get to know that girl a little better.

It wasn’t until he’d left the room and her scent began to fade that Lowell started to think straight. He was not allowed to get close to anyone, least of all a pretty girl. Had he never seen horror films? It was always the pretty girls that died the gruesome deaths.

He couldn’t cancel their Monday date, now. For a start, that would mean venturing up to the working levels, and the idea of that scared him half to death. No, he’d have to go through with it on Monday and let her down gently then. He couldn’t risk being smitten, not only for the protection of her life but for the protection of his job. He was on a cushy number, here. He knew it, and he also knew it would be almost impossible to get another job where he could spend such a long time on his own.

You can pick Moon Shy up at Total-E-Bound now as an eBook or in Audiobook format.

Now please go and Vote.

Please.

Snowed in at School

posted in Silver Publishing |

The weather outside is frightful…

Gary and Lucy, two teachers, are snowed in the school together on Christmas Eve. Gary tries to wade across the school playground to freedom but all that happens is he ends up wet and trouserless and Lucy has to work out some way to warm him up. Could this be the ideal opportunity for her to make her sexiest fantasies come true?

“Three reindeer and a ginger snowman, that’ll be eighty pence please, Sara.”

I took the proffered pound coin from the smiling child and gave her back the change and her bag of cakes.

“Thanks Miss Conrad,” she said and skipped off.

I really enjoyed baking for the school fairs, even though I would end up cooking into the wee hours of the morning to get everything done on time. It was watching the kids’ faces light up as they ate one of my treats which I liked the most.

“Hello Miss Conrad, how are sales?”

I nodded at Mr Stephenson, the year six teacher, and replied with a smile, “Very well, very well. The reindeer are proving particularly popular. How’s the tombola?”

“All the prizes have been won so I’m having a look around the other stalls. I had to come here first, I was afraid you might have sold out.”

“I still have a few things left, what would you like?”

“Everything looks so sweet,” he said with a cheeky smile.

I blushed and imagined that maybe he was including me in that statement. If only. Mr Stephenson was way out of my league.

He ran a hand through his dark hair and I bit my lip. I wondered what it’d be like to run my hands through his hair and I decided it would be sublime. His words jogged me from my day dream.

“Can I take a snowman biscuit, it’s ginger isn’t it?”

“Yeah, my secret gingerbread recipe, in fact.”

“Nice, I’ll have two snowmen then and a rum truffle.”

“Oh, the rum truffle is my favourite,” I chattered as I tried to still my hands enough to place his cakes into a bag, “instant Christmas in a mouthful those are.”

“Yeah, they look really succulent. I just can’t wait to get my mouth around them.”

I glanced to the side and could swear he was looking down the cleavage of my modest blouse.

“Mr Stephenson, do you want more than one?” I asked with a puzzled look.

“Oh, yes, yes,” he said, “two please, they look so good.”

“Right, well, that will be one pound twenty, sir.”

A twinge of arousal zipped from my lips to, well, my ‘womanly core’ as the romance books would put it. You see, I’d often fantasised about playing the naughty school girl to Mr Stephenson’s strict head teacher. Calling him sir made me wet.

“Okay, Miss,” he winked.

I blushed and just for a moment I wondered if he knew what was going on in my mind but his smile was so innocent and dimply he couldn’t possible know the sordid thoughts in my mind.

“Here, keep the change.”

“Thanks.” I took the money and enjoyed the brush of his hand against mine.

“Miss Conrad, Miss Conrad,” A little voice pulled me from my daydreams.

“Yes, Sam?”

“What would be nice for me mum? She’s been a bit poorly and I want to take her a treat.”

“That’s very nice of you, Sam,” I smiled. “Does she like ginger?”

As Sam ummed and ahhed I caught Mr Stephenson’s gaze; he waved and walked away. I felt so silly, like a teenager with a crush but I was seriously infatuated with the man and had been since I arrived at the school back in September.

“Miss, I said I don’t think she does, I think she’d like a mince pie. She likes mince pies.”

“Oh, right, of course.” I snapped myself out of my daydream. “These are lovely even if I do say so myself.”

* * * *

I didn’t see Mr Stephenson again until I was walking over to my car after the Christmas fair had finished. I had bags filled with empty plastic boxes in my hands and my school file under my arm.

“Let me help you with those, Lucy,” he said from behind me. “You’re going to drop something.”

He took two carrier bags from my hands and freed me to grip my file much more tightly.

“Thanks, I should have made two trips but I wanted to get home.”

“I know what you mean,” he said, “I’ve got a pile of marking to do.”

“And I’ve got my tea in the slow cooker,” I replied with a laugh. “So very glamorous.”

“Least you’ve got a nice meal waiting for you when you get home. I’ve just got my marking.”

This was something I could never get my head around. He was such a handsome chap, kind, witty and all yet he was single in his late thirties. I’d have snapped him up years ago if I’d known him. I’d have given it a good go anyway.

“There’s something not right here, you know. I think we’re married to the job.” I grinned wryly.

“You’re right,” he said as I opened the boot of my car. “One of these days I might just get a life outside the classroom, you know?”

“I hear you,” I nodded and took the bags from him trying not to look too hard at his long, strong fingers or his thick juicy palms. I knew if I noticed them I would conjure up images in my mind of his raised hand over my naked backside as I bent over his lap ready for my longed-for punishment.

“Are you okay?” he asked and I looked back up to his confused face.

“Oh, yes, yes. I’m just tired, need to get home. Thanks for your help. I’ll see you bright and early in the morning, all right?”

“Yes, you young ones need your sleep,” he laughed and walked off in the direction of his car.

“Young one?” I laughed, “I’m only ten years younger than you, Mr Stephenson. I’m not that young.”

“Whatever you say, whippersnapper,” he winked and got into his battered old red car. “See you.”

“Bye,” I waved and sat down in the driver’s seat of my car. I had to face it; I had no chance with Mr Stephenson, Hell, I could hardly bear to think of him by his first name he was so much out of my league. He saw me as some young ward he needed to protect. He’d never see me in a sexual way; he’d never imagine kissing me, caressing me, spanking me in the way I fantasised about. Anyway, who was I trying to kid? Even if we were the same age, he’d never look at me. I’m the fat kid, always have been. My breasts blossomed early in life and my hips have always been wide. I was teased for my curves all through my school days and I knew the older kids in my current school called me fat behind my back. Why would a handsome guy like Mr. Stephenson fall for a fat kid like me?

Friends Friday – Sarah Ann Watts!

posted in Friends Friday | Tagged: ,

Welcome the Lovely Sarah Ann Watts to Friends Friday today, she’s going to tell us all about her love of books!

I’ m excited and terrified. Next month – whisper it quietly – I have a story coming out. Not the first time this has happened – but the first time when it is my name on the cover. This time I’m flying solo and that is scary but kind of fun too. All right – I admit – I’m thrilled.

hrt

Of course the ‘flying solo’ isn’t true. I could do an Oscar speech – maybe cry even – thanking everyone who has helped me with my writing journey but in the midst of my hands over eyes shyness there is the, ‘how did this happen?’ and, ‘how did it happen to me?’

Where does a life-long obsession with books begin?

I could blame my mother who told me, ‘books are friends’ and took me to the library before I could walk. Or my father who wrote letters to me before I could talk, let alone read and told me bedtime stories. I used to lie in wait for him like Christopher Robin on the bottom stair when he came in from work. ‘Read to me?’ and he always did. It might be the dragon-like infant teacher who coaxed me laboriously through ‘Here is Peter. Here is Jane’ and traumatised me with the tale of Theseus and the Minotaur.

Fantasy comics read in summer holiday dawns before anyone else was awake. Fairy Tales in Yellow, Blue and Pink and ‘A Gift from Winklesea’. Possibly the first book I ever read by myself and never forgot. Christmas books and birthday books – ‘The Jungle Book’ and ‘The Hobbit’ and later, ‘The Moonstone’. As a teenager, lying awake all night after listening to M R James, with the classroom darkening in the brief light of a winter’s afternoon

I’d like to say I got to read anything I wanted to – and mostly it was true. There was the time I chose a sensational romance as a school prize. I was summoned by the head teacher and compelled to swap it for ‘something more suitable’. I don’t remember what it was I chose and why it was so shocking. Maybe that’s why I write – because I’m still looking for the book that got away?

Sarah Ann Watts is a UK writer who writes fantasy, science fiction and romance. She lives in Yorkshire with her family and grew up in a small seaside town with a library and a bookshop. Early influences included the fabulous Mary Renault, Mary Stewart and a teacher who read everything from Saki to M R James in class and encouraged her to write. The rest is fiction.

Her fantasy romance story – Heart of the Kingdom – is due for release from Silver Publishing on 5 February 2011.

Excitement!

posted in Blog | Tagged: ,

I have not had the best of weeks so far. My daughter hasn’t been well, she’s caught this horrid flu and has been off school so far this week. So I’ve spent an awful lot of time inside the house looking after a poorly little girl. So I’ve been feeling a little glum, as I am sure you can quite understand.

However last night I got a really pleasant surprise as I was checking through various email and such. I discovered that two of my stories had been nominated in the Love Romances Best of Awards! Not one but two, that definitely put a smile on my face!

So Moon Shy is nominated for the Best Shapeshifter book and The Point is nominated for the best book over all! I’m really, really thrilled and thank the person/people who nominated these stories, I’m touched, I really am. Now, voting doesn’t open ’til the 22nd. So once voting is up and running I will let you know and would appreciate your votes, thank you.

Tomorrow I’m going to share some excerpts with you from my Nominated stories so you can get a feel for them and their characters all in time to vote.

Now, if you don’t mind, I’m going to indulge myself in some happy dancing!
